Shawn’s 24 Hours of Halloween

If I had the ability to stay up for 24 hours and could start a movie at 12:00am on October 31st and continue right until 11:59 on November 1st, these are the movies I would watch. I’m going to assume that the running length will be around 2 hours each so I’ll pick 12 movies.

1st movie-  SAW

The first Saw is near perfection for me. I was lucky enough to see it in theatres before the franchise exploded with Saw 2. While the acting was weaker in parts, I loved the twist ending and enjoyed the atmosphere and the story being told. A lot of people forget this, but I also loved that it wasn’t over the top gory. A lot of what goes on in the first movie is off screen or black and white.

2nd movie – SAW 2

It’s only natural that I would continue with the next in the franchise. The Saw series was at a fever pitch when this movie came out and I remember all of the theatres being packed for it. I saw it with a few good friends of mine and we ended up making it our Halloween tradition to see a Saw movie.

3rd Movie SAW 3

“Really Shawn, are you just going to keep watching Saw movies all Halloween?” The answer to that is no. This is the last movie in the series that I enjoyed. I’ve seen all of them but the series really started to veer off the rails from this point on. It’s also hard to hate a movie that featured Robert The Bruce.

INTERMISSION TO DRINK COFFEE AND WALK DOG

4th Movie EXIT HUMANITY

This movie was just such a treat. I watched it earlier this year and then rushed out to buy it on Blu-Ray. It’s a zombie movie but it doesn’t feel like one. It’s set around the time of the American Civil War and the character development and plot never feel forced and are truly beautiful to watch. The Walking Dead could learn something from this movie.

5th Movie EXCISION

I need at least one truly disturbing film on this list and I’m going with Excision. There is not a movie I’ve seen this year that has left me more emotionally exhausted after the credits than this. AnnaLynne McCord gives a masterful and completely unrecognizable appearance as a rebellious and odd teen girl who wants nothing more than to be a surgeon.

6th Movie DEADLY PRESENCE

I’m not throwing this in here to pander or suck up. I genuinely loved this movie when I watched it earlier this year. It’s getting a mass release and I suggest you pick up a copy when they become available. The lead actress Megan Lynn and the director Shane Cole are both very active on Social Media and are two of the friendliest people you could hope to meet.

7th Movie PANDORUM

I am such a sucker for horror/sci-fi that I felt I needed to include this one on the list. I love the claustrophobic feel of the movie and after watching it I no longer felt the need for them to make a Dead Space movie, because this one handles all of the themes perfectly.

8th Movie HAMMER FILMS The MUMMY(1959)

My father and I would watch this movie on a nightly basis. It’s one of my all-time favorites. This movie spawned my love of all Mummy movies. I saw this before I watched the Karloff films and I’ve probably seen every single Mummy film ever since. If you haven’t seen it, then go out and do that right now. Hammer used to deliver quality fun horror movies back from the 50s to the 70s

INTERMISSION TO WALK DOG, FEED CATS, EAT FOOD, DRINK MORE COFFEE, MAKE NEEDLESS TWEETS, THROW IN UNNECESSARY BUT RATHER CHARMING INSULT IN THE DIRECTION OF RENFIELD

9th Movie FREDDY VS JASON

I’ll put this on towards the end to keep it fun. This movie had everything that I could ever want from a Freddy Vs Jason film. It’s nice mindless fun.

10th Movie EVIL DEAD

I am now switching gears and starting up the original Evil Dead. As I touched on in an article before, this is the first horror movie I was ever allowed to watch. Fun times indeed.

11th Movie EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN

I have action figures from this movie proudly being displayed in my house. I absolutely love this film and enjoyed its balancing of serious and terrifying. Only natural that it would be the second last on this list.

12th Movie ARMY OF DARKNESS

I may be one of the few people that doesn’t consider this movie Horror at all but since everybody else does I’m putting it on the list. I know it’s classified as a horror-comedy but I see it more as a fantasy-comedy movie. Whatever the genre is, this is hands down my favorite movie to watch. It’s actually a movie that I watch every Halloween starting at 10:23 so that the final credits end just as Halloween does.

That’s my list, I hope you enjoyed it as much as you did Dusty’s.
